OnMay 18, 1956, a Swiss expedition reached the summit of the Himalayan LhotseMountains (8516m) and the bordering summit of Mount Everest (8848m) on May 23,1956. This was only the second time the summit of Everest was reached. Allexpedition members were wearing Enicar Seapearl watches. The key to the successof the Enicar Seapearl model was the ruggedness of the hand wind movement anduse of the Swiss patent #98243 Bayonet type closure compressor case made by theErvin Piquerez SA (EPSA) company. The earliest Seapearl marked (back and/ordial) model watch with the bayonet type compressor case with EPSA STOP markingI know of is dated 10-55.The reliability of the Seapearl watch paralleled thereliability of the Nepalese Sherpa’s which led Enicar to register the nameSherpa on November 6, 1956.
