Cave Optical 12 Inch Telescope Mirror F 6.1 USDI M661950:
$355

This is a Cave Optical Company telescope mirror. I don't know the story behind this mirror, but it is marked USDI. On the rear it says (as you can see in the pictures) US Department of Interior 76 3/4" FL. 77" FL TO 80" FL. That is written in pencil and the handwriting looks to be about the same as the engraving on the side. It is dated June 28, 1966. The serial number is #M661950. It is just over 12 inches across and 2 inches thick. It will need some recoating but it appears to be free of chips and scratches on the reflective side. Cave Optical mirrors are known as some of the most valued optics because of their premier quality. If you have any questions or more information about this please let me know. Thank you.

On Feb-06-12 at 21:41:18 PST, seller added the following information:

****UPDATE****THIS IS NOT A 12 INCH MIRROR, IT IS A 12.5 INCH MIRROR:****UPDATE**** An er who looked at this posting contacted me and said this listing was not accurate because Cave Optical Company never made a 12" diameter lens with a focal distance longer than 72" and therefore this was incorrectly listed and was not a telescope mirror. Due to not wanting to touch the mirror with my tape measure, I measured incorrectly....... This is a 12 1/2" mirror. That makes the f/ratio correct at 6.1 (76 3/4" / 12.5" = 6.14). My apologies, and if you are the winning buyer right now and wish to cancel your offer, contact me. Again, I apologize for any confusion it was purely accidental and I did not mean to misrepresent this item.
Also, I tried to get some better pictures posted (with a real camera instead of my phone) so you could see where the silver has flaked off.
