This auction is for a Meade 10" f8 Schmidt-Cassegrain telescope optical tube assembly with an upgraded Astro-Physics visual back** which keeps the optical train straight and rigid. The auction does not include the top and bottom full length Losmandy D style dove tail plates. The Televue refractor telescope mounted on top is for illustration only and is not included in this auction. The Losmandy equatorial mount shown is not included in this auction.
This telescope was the original Meade 10" Schmidt-Cassegrain model 2120. Optically, this is very well made. The telescope was shipped with a fork mount which in today's standard is grossly insufficient since it has no GOTO capability and its tracking accuracy is marginal at best. Most serious astronomy hobbyists would de-fork it and put the optical tube assembly on a modern equatorial mount. The optics are clean and flawless, and well collimated. The telescope will be shipped in a well padded box.
Note: Bob's Knobs are included for easier secondary collimation. This Meade 10" telescope is near flawless, with no dents on the tube, optics is extremely clean.
If you want the Losmandy D style dovetail plates, I will sell both of them for $180. I highly recommend buying the Losmandy dovetail plates because not only do they allow you to mount guide scopes and tube counterweights, they add rigidity to the tube assmbly and help keep its collimation.
**If you want the original Meade 1-1/4" visual back, I will include it in the shipment. However, I advise against using it. The Astro-Physics 2" Visual back is a must-have because it has three screws evenly spaced to lock the diagnoal/eyepiece. The original visual back uses a locking collar to secure the prism. The locking collar was made with too much clearance so it can never be held true to the center of the optical axis. It was just a terrible design. The smaller opening of the 1-1/4" visual back also cuts off part of the image cone.
