ZERODUR BLANK MIRROR OPTIC 15.25"W x 6.5"H, $15K NEW; CUT YIELDS 3, 4, 5 even 6:
$5,500

15.25 inch / 387.35 mm diameter, 6.5 inch / 165.1 mm height, 109 pounds, untouched, native form from Schott.
New, unused, Schott Zerodur low expansion glass ceramic, a high precision material also used for challenging applications, measuring as 15.25 inch / 387.35 mm diameter, 6.5 inch / 165.1 mm height, 109 pounds. Use as an optical mirror substrate for telescopes, even a binocular telescope, structural component, art object, step stool, paper weight, etc.

Arguably the finest mirror material and for other zero expansion uses, it’s strong, rigid and durable, an excellent candidate for light weighting. A supremely professional material in all aspects in original, factory made shape, currently valued around $15,000 from a conversation with Schott, the original destination a professional optical fabricator of the highest caliber on earth.

This classic, perfect mirror substrate can possibly yield up to 6 blanks for supreme quality, thinner and lighter budget mirrors as seen here in costly sales or thicker for more traditional to fully professional design criteria.

This Zerodur blank is genuine; in original, untouched condition from Schott, the remnant of a defunct, professional optical project of frightening complexity and precision, the final shape not necessarily roundeither, hence the geometric pencil markings seen, before project abandonment.

This blank's size and weight can verify its composition. Using the blank's volume and the density of Zerodur from Schott as 2.53 g/cm3, the calculated weight for this size object is 109 lbs, matching results from a typical consumer scale.

All surfaces of this blank are smooth, the camera flash produced unnatural effects. Any of the lines seen are photographic / flash exaggerations of the natural, smooth and unfinished factory face; penciled lines are seen on the other factory face along with adhesive tape remnants. The 6.5" side edge has the dimensions written for inventory and marker drawn lines for professionally sized, slicing locations.

One, smooth divot / defect is present, shown directly on top in the last photo, located completely in the beveled edge, outside what would become the coating area of the natural, untouched factory face, but likely becoming the bottom anyway. There aren't any scratches or gouges, especially the line reflection shown to the right of the bevel divot. It is just a reflection, simply being at a perfect angle to reflect the flash. It is exactly the same line as the hundreds there and all in native form from the manufacturing process.

Offered worldwide, sent fully insured for the purchase price with adult signature required. Buyer must inspect package and item at delivery. In case of damage or irregularity, alert delivery personnel, note conditions, take pictures, immediately begin filing a claim, on the spot. Listed as new / NOS in excellent condition, but strictly offered AS IS for your choice of use, and therefore with no suitability or guarantee for any purpose or nature.

Local pickup is available as is some delivery. The blank is 35 miles from midtown Manhattan in NYC, approximately 150 miles to Boston, 175 to Philadelphia.
