A Fine & Very Rare C. 1840 Ramsden Friction Machine * Early Electrostatic Device:
$855.00
Another week, another excellent assortment of mechanical, technological and musical antiques, including some stuff I swore I\'d never sell. Take a look. You won\'t be disappointed. Here\'s a Ramsden Friction Machine, an early electrostatic device whose invention preceded that of the Wimshurst machine by more than a century. Unlike most Ramsden machines, which are enormous, this example is only 24\" long (including the handle) by 14\" deep by 18\" high, so it can be displayed almost anywhere. Condition is very good throughout, as you can see in the photographs. There are a couple of breaks in the friction sacks\' fabric, as you can see in the pictures, but the parts are otherwise in good order, and the glass charging disc spins easily when the crank is turned. Original finish on the wood, original enamel on the crank. No damage to the glass disc, no damage to the glass insulating rods. Brass parts are all in good condition, with minimal tarnish and no corrosion. It is, all in all, an exceptionally nice and very uncommon apparatus, the likes of which I will probably never see again once this example has moved on to a permanent home.Shipping weight, properly packed, will be approximately 25 lb. That\'s about it. I will package it properly so that it arrives at your doorstep safely. I have been shipping antique phonographs and radios for years, and if you check my feedback, you\'ll see that I know how to do it correctly. Buyer prepays and includes shipping.
