Description
An Original 19th Century Antique Lacquered Brass Microscope on a Cast Iron Base.
With its Fitted Mahogany Case and 2 Glass Slides.
Microscope in used but good condition cosmetically as shown clearly, with some surface patina of age and use, but with no major damage, dents, splits or major structural issues.
The Sliding Barrel Focus operates smoothly but the outer sleeve will need narrowing a fraction as it moves a little too freely.
The Tapered Objective Lens Mount sits a little out of true when in place at the end of the Barrel, as shown, the Threads seem to have slight damage as it will not tighten fully or sit completely flush, that said it will tighten enough to stay in situ and work but will probably need attention if the Microscope is required for serious use
One Objective Lens is missing, they are designed to be used in combination with each other, as they are of different magnification strengths the Microscope still works even tho\' one Lens is missing.
I could not separate two of the Objectives as they are quite tight, a simple fix with the correct tools and a little patience.
The Microscope Lenses, including the Internal ones, have no major wear or damage, there is nothing that adversely affects the end result.
The Subsidiary External Lens has no major wear, cracks, chips or damage.
Magnification is good, powerful and clear, focus is precise, in use the image is in the round and pin sharp, I have tried to show this in the pictures but in reality the image is sharper and clearer.
All Lens Frames apart from those already mentioned run smoothly and tighten fully on their Threads.
The Mirror has only minor signs of age, no cracks or chips, it works well and moves firmly.
The Case is in good used condition, with only minor signs of age and use but structurally sound, clean and serviceable, the Hinges are sound and the Catch works.
A nice collectible, / usable / project Antique Microscope.
