Antique Electrostatic Winter Machine circa 1920 Good Condition:
$369.00

Thanks for looking. Don\'t hesitate to ask for additional photos. I\'ve owned various antique Electrostatic Machines (Wimshurst, Winters, Toeplers, etc.) for nearly twelve years. I am slowly selling my seldom used devices. This is a circa 1920 Winters-style small friction machine. It has the original glass and the original pads. The pads show the slightest bit of remaining amalgam, though the device won\'t work, unless the glass is absolutely dry and the air is low humidity. This really is a collector\'s piece. I did create an identical acrylic disc and two substitute pads with fur - and the device (small as it is) works admirably. The patina on the prime conductor is nice. Again, this is a diminutive piece - the glass is roughly 8\" in diameter. I will package cautiously and ship accordingly. I\'m quoting $30 to ship. If it is less than that, I will refund the difference. Please check my feedback. I\'ve been with ebay for 19 years - not a high volume buyer/seller, but I\'m honest. Domestic Only.

Hi. Firstly, I want to cautiously not overstate things. This device \"as is\" won\'t pull much of a spark at all - really the slightest of snap from the prime conductor and only if the air is notably non humid. I have much experience with using antique electrostatic devices for reenactments and etc. Also, the original pads have virtually no amalgam left (only two tiny spots), and so there\'s not much to excite. As stated, this is likely a display piece. In its original state (with full amalgam some 90 years ago), the device would excite the glass, leaving charge separation that would then be picked up by the small teeth (not visible in the photos) - then transferred to the prime conductor (brass ball), where it would reside uniformly until drawn off by either a snap (as once) or through the use of toys connected by a chain.
