Description
An Antique Late 18th Century Dr William Witherings Folding Botanical Microscope, in its Mahogany Case.
In used but good condition cosmetically, as shown clearly, overall with only a little patina of age and use, with no major damage or structural issues.
The Instruction Label to the underside of the Lid has some losses but is still legible for the most part.
The Sliding Stage operates firmly up / down and side to side on the Stem, what at first glance appears to be a crack in the Stage is in fact only a scratch.
The Objective Lens is a little dirty but has no cracks or chips, it is firmly seated in its Frame, the Frame is not structurally weak or fragile.
The Mahogany Case is in good used condition, with only minor signs of age and use, it is structurally sound, robust, clean and serviceable, no cracks or other issues.
The Folding Mechanism works well, firmly and as designed, with no weaknesses or issues to any part.
The Apparatus stands upright and deployed in conjunction with the opening of the Lid, it works in reverse as the Lid is closed.
The Hinge is strong with no play, it operates firmly, the Lid Catch works securely.
A superb example of Antique Microscopy, a scarce and much sought after item.
