Description

A British Made Antique Cary of London Single Draw Naval / Ships Telescope or Spyglass in Brass and Mahogany.

Measures approx\' 33.75 Inches fully open.

A genuine period Telescope, not a reproduction or copy.

Signed with the Makers Name on the Draw.

As seen I have had this Telescope apart, all in good order internally with only minor signs of age and use.

All the Lenses are present, including the internal ones, only very light cleaning marks and some internal dust to the Objective Lenses, none of the Lenses have any major wear, cracks or chips, nothing is badly worn.

Despite the remaining dust on the inside of the Objectives it does focus well and sharply, this would obviously be improved slightly once the Objectives were clean.

The Objective Lens Carrier I left in place as the corresponding dent makes its removal difficult, as shown.

The Threaded union between the Draw and the Barrel is worn and will not tighten fully without slipping when hand tight, as stated this is due to worn threads.

Apart from this issue all the Threaded Components shown disassembled run well on clean threads and tighten fully, some are slightly tricky to start off but all do work well once located properly, none are stripped, crossed or badly damaged.

The Mahogany Barrel is in good order, it has only normal surface patina of age and use, there is also an age related shallow surface split or two, as shown clearly, but no structural issues or major damage, no movement to the splits.

Both Brass Ends are firm with no movement despite some cracks and a Pin missing, all this at the Objective end as shown.

The Draw is a good friction fit, moving firmly and with only a tiny amount of sideways play at the Joint when fully extended, no splits, dents, cracks or major damage.

The Shutter on the Eye-piece is stiff and will only close partially.

As to be expected, given its age, origins and intended purpose this is a good quality Telescope, well worth saving / restoring, or it could just be used as a decorative, interesting and Historical collectable as it stands.

Shown comprehensively in the many pictures, please examine them in close up before you bid, to satisfy yourself as to condition, suitability, etc. of the item(s) shown.

Widest External Diameter of the Objective End is 5.60 cms.
