You are looking at a working antique Electrotatic Whirl for use with a Wimshurst Machine.
The Electrostatic Whirl is in great condition and measures 7\" tall, constructed of brass with an insulating rod of hard rubber in the stand. It\'s French and probably dates to around 1900.
In use the chain is attached to one side of a Wimshurst machine and when the Wimshurst is wound the 4 pronged whirl rotates due to the electrons ionising the air at the prongs. I\'ve tried it and it works very well, gaining quite a speed. It would work with any other electrostatic generator, not just a Wimshurst.
This is a great opportunity to own a nice working example of this classic electrostatic toy.
