Chapman, English Antique 1/4 Plate Field Camera OutfitAn early and quite rare Kershaw focal plane 1/4 plate camera and accessories from 1905, which may be of interest to collectors.The camera is fitted with a Carl Zeiss, Jena Compur lens which operates as designed at various aperture settings.The lens is marked with serial No.258646. The black leather bellows appear to be in fine condition with no visible damage.Also with the camera is an original hand written letter, dated May 11th 1905, from the retailer Josiah T. Chapman, Brazennose Street, Manchester,
giving detailed instructions on how to use the camera.Historical note:
Josiah T Chapman was one of the first photographic dealers in Manchester, England.
He established his camera business in 1874 and designed several excellent cameras, sometimes subcontracted for manufacture by Scott or Billcliffe. There are three numbered plate holders with the camera and the original leather carry case.Here for sale with a low start price and as usual, without reserve.Do ask questions as required and do please see my other antique art & items of interest.
