This superb "Siebe Gorman" divers torch is in "as found", condition and it has not been restored or repaired by us.
Augustus Siebe (1788 – 15 April 1872), a German born, British engineer chiefly known for his contributions to diving equipment, founded Siebe and Co, the company advertised itself as \'Submarine Engineers\'. In 1870 Augustus Siebe passed his business to his son Henry Herapath Siebe and William Augustus Gorman the business then started trading as "Siebe & Gorman". Follwing Gormans death in 1904 the company was renamed "Siebe Gorman Ltd"
I believe, this is a British Admiralty Pattern, brass deep sea diver\'s torch. Thetorch is stamped AP 4456 around the bezel and has four prongs on the bezel to protect the lens. The four prongs and the AP number; I believe; indicate this lamp was made circa 1936, before the pattern number was changed to a NATO number. These torches were made to the design of the British Royal Navy.
It is made from solid brass and has retained much of its\' original finish, the brass is showing through on the prongs and the base, one or two of the prongs are a little bent. The barrel of the torch is stamped "Siebe Gorman & Co. Ltd., Makers, London" and the bezel is stamped "A P 4456".
I have tested the bulb and it is in working order, all of the parts; including the spring; appear to be present and there are no chips or cracks to the lens.
The torch is 28.5 cm (11 1/4 inches) long to the end of the prongs.
