Never observe the sun with the naked eye or through a telescope, binoculars, camera or other optical device. Doing so will cause serious damage your eye sight and may lead to permanent blindness. Both the eye and artificial optical devices concentrate the extremely strong ultraviolet light from the sun onto the retina. This can permanently destroy the retina's ability to detect light. To safely observe a solar eclipse you must use solar eclipse glasses like our
UV Brite™ Shades or use indirect methods such as pin hole projection onto a suitable surface. You will put your eye sight at risk by only wearing regular sunglasses or shades to directly view the sun.

UV Brite™ Shades are essential to ensure safe viewing of the Total Solar Eclipse on Monday August 21, 2017. Of course, you can use them for simply observing the Sun if you wish. The Sun is very dangerous, to ensure safe observations of the sun our UV Brite™ Shades have scratch resistant black polymer lenses to optical density 6.0 set ina cardboard frame. The lenses filter out 100% of harmful ultraviolet, 100% of harmful infrared and 99.9999% of intense visible light. Our optical density 6.0 lenses let through 1 particle of light per 1 million particles. Don't risk your eyesight or your families eyesight, much safer for your Kids!

Our UV Brite™ Shades solar eclipse glasses are ISO approved and have been independently tested for safe direct solar viewing. They meet the standard for ISO 12312-2:2015. They provide the ultimate in protection from harmful solar radiation. They have important usage information printed on the inside to aid your safety.

The lenses in our UV Brite™ Shades are made of exclusive scratch resistant optical density 6.0 black polymer material, filtering out 100% of harmful ultraviolet, 100% of harmful infrared, and 99.9999% of intense visible light. These premium filters create a sharper orange colour image of the sun. They meet the transmission requirements of scale 12-16 of EN 169/1992. They meet the 2012 Transmission Requirements of EN 1836:2005 & AS/NZS 1338.1:1992 for eclipse filters.

Wednesday August 12, 2026 Total Solar EclipseTotal Solar Eclipse - Monday August 21, 2017 USAOn Monday August 21, 2017 there will be a total solar eclipse visible right across America from west coast to east coast. Witnessing a solar eclipse is a truly magnificent and memorable experience for anyone lucky enough to have the opportunity to observe this extraordinary event. This is the first total eclipse of the Sun visible from all 48 contiguous United States (excluding Alaska and Hawaii) since 1979 - 38 years ago! The last time a total eclipse was visible from coast to coast was June 8, 1918.
You can experience the eclipse in North America, Canada, North/West South America, Pacific, Atlantic, Arctic. It will also be partially visible from the the western edge of Europe including the United Kingdom and Ireland, North/East Asia and North/West Africa. If you want to be one of the first people to experience the total solar eclipse be on the beach in Oregon, at a rocky piece of ground slightly north of Newport at 10:15:56 a.m. PDT. The total eclipse will last 1m 58s. Everyone in the continental U.S. will see at least a partial eclipse, the Moon will cover at least 49 percent of the Sun’s surface. The center line of totality crosses through 10 states including:
  • Idaho, 11:25 a.m. MDT
  • Wyoming 11:49 a.m. MDT
  • Kansas 1:04 p.m. CDT
  • Kentucky 1:24 p.m. CDT
  • Tennessee 1:26 p.m. CDT
  • Georgia 2:35 p.m. EDT
  • South Carolina 2:36 p.m. EDT
All timings are approximate. The extreme north east part of Georgia does experience some totality. It lasts a maximum of 2m 40s. To experience that length, you’ll need to be slightly south of Carbondale, Illinois, in Giant City State Park.
Never attempt to point a pair of binoculars or a telescope at the Sun.
Doing so may result in immediate and permanent blindness.Nashville will have the greatest views. The city center and parts north of it will experience 2+ minutes of totality. Unfortunately, that’s the only large city with a great view.
