Placed forauction is an exceptional museum quality marine steam engine. This engine wouldcomplement any collection, or be a great vertical marine steam engine forplacement in a steam launch. This is an engine that was surplus from the HenryFord Museum collection. The engine circa is 1880. There is no manufactures nameon this engine but just a serial number 11. This 135 year old launch engine hasseen very little use.
This fantastic vertical marine steam engineis 25 1/2 inches tall. Thelength of the engine is 23 inches including the coupling and the width is 13inches. The bore and stroke is 3 inches.The cylinder bore is in very good condition as shown in the attached picture.
The crankshaft diameter is 1 inches. Thecrank is cast and counter balanced. The nice cast iron fly wheel is 8 inchesin diameter and 1 5/8 inches wide. The hand wheel is also cast. The engine hasbronze adjustable slipper guides. It, also, has all the original oilers and lubricators. It hasa nice size main bearings. The valve eccentric straps are large and widefor this size engine. It has a beautifuland exquisite marine bronze cast Stephenson reverse valve gear. You will neverwear it out! It has a nice all bronze piston feed water pump with check valvesdriven off of the cross head. Included is the original shaft coupling with abore of 1 inch. This engine has a lot of detailed machine work. It is a veryrare vintage engine with the rocking valve gear. The tapered rocking valve hasan adjustable thrust surface. The engine runs very well and it can run on high pressure steam because ofrocking valve gear.
What a nice engine to put in a classy openwooden launch or a steam powered vintage railroad speeder. I have not polished or cleaned the engine in any way and onlyoiled bearings for test running on air. Itstill has some of the original red paint as shown in the pictures.
This couldbe one of the rarest steam launch engines every offered on E-Bay.
Crate size will be 18 inches wide by 24inches long by 30 inches tall. There will be a $100.00 crating charge. The approximate total weight 150 poundsboxed. Local pick up is always encouraged.
