Description A wonderfulearlylarge-sizedEnglishantiqueGeorgiansolid silverand polished faux tortoiseshellmagnifying/reading glass, in excellent condition anddating from around 1810.Superb quality genuine 200+ year old example, a nice usable size, with beautiful faux shell mother of pearl side panels and solid silver butterfly mounts, and it has a hinged sliding silver mounted glass magnifying lens which folds neatly inside. There are no added personal engraved inscriptions. A real beauty.
Measurements Measures approx 3.1 inches (79mm) x 2.3 inches (58mm) and is 0.75 inches (19mm) deep.
Date English antique Georgiansolid sterling silver,no silver marks as is quitenormal with these early Georgian silver examples as there was no legal requirement to hallmark small items until 1815.This is100% guaranteed antique solid silver and dating from around 1800-1815.
ConditionExcellent condition, no splits or solder repairs to the silver and no nasty knocks or dents. The silver buttefly mounts are all undamaged. The faux tortoiseshell side panels are in lovely condition, no chips, just one tiny very faint possiblehairline,really nothing at all, see last photo, (could even be a natural flaw), all tight and secure and a stunning example with really fine colouring. The glass magnifying lens is almost certainly original and in superb condition, no chips or cracks and hardly any surface scratching. A beautiful early example, very hard to find in this state they are very often quite damaged through age/use. In just about the best condition I have seen.
