This is a compact, table top telescope. It comes with a backpack. I live in a wet cold climate most of the year so the nights have been too cloudy to star gaze as yet. But having a look through the lens on sunny days it seems to have a powerful reach. Would recommend.

Portable easy to use, good grab and go

Lense quality is good, compact, perfect for camping trips. I had read reviews that said the tripod was shakey so no surprise it would be challenging to narrow a point of focus. Hey but for the price and transportability, i cant really compare to a skywatcher 80/400 az3 that i bought at the same time. Mind u, i will be taking the backpack for camping trips, until i get a carry case for the heavier and better quality az3. This one is great for a beginner. Instructions were fully chinese, so suspect grey import, but easy enough to download english manual off a google search.

  • A good-value, light-weight, pack and go terrestrial telescope,

The Celestron Travel Scope 70 is a short-tube f/5 refractor, focal length is 400 mm. If all you want to do is look at wildlife or scenery, you will be pleased with this telescope. All the body parts are made of plastic to reduce weight. Celestron has chosen to supply a flimsy tripod, again in order to reduce the weight. Let's start with the most important part, the 70mm doublet objective lens, which gives adequate performance at this price point. Slight purple fringing from chromatic aberation will be noticed at the highest magnification. This telescope comes with two eyepieces, a 10 mm Kellner and a 20mm Kellner, giving magnifications of 40 X and 20 X respectively. Celestron supplies an erecting prism diagonal, with 32mm barrel diameter, which is a good choice for terrestrial viewing. ...

  • Great First Telescope

Despite other reviews re this telescope I found it to be better that my expectation. In general it is quite good but it is early days. I had read that better lenses might improve it. I am using it in a terrestial situation so haven't tried astronomically.

  • Nice telescope.

Celestron have been making these for years, & are a trusted, well known brand.

  • It's ok.

It's not a bad telescope but the scope keeps falling down even when you tighten up the appropriate screw to hold it in place. The magnification is ok, not super close up but not bad either. It hurts my neck constantly having to hold the scope in place when it should just stay put.
