Good upgrade for an inexpensive scope.
At the time I bought this, I wanted an inexpensive eyepiece to give me a greater field of view than the 20mm piece that came with my inexpensive 90mm reflector. This 40mm eyepiece fills that function and focuses sharply over the entire field. My complaint is that eye relief is very finicky. The view blacks out if my eye gets close enough to touch the eye cup, which is very annoying. I need to hover my eye carefully over the eyepiece, which makes it more difficult to scan the sky than with the cheap 20mm that came with the scope. The field is much bigger though, and understand I bought this at a price point, so I rate it 4 stars instead of 5. After I ordered this, I found a very nice scope 8" dob on CL for a crazy low price, and it included some Super Plossl eyepieces with 52 degree ... For instance a 32mm Super Plossl with 52 degree apparent field would offer higher magnification, more contrast, and a larger image of the same actual piece of sky. Great Little Eyepiece For The Price
I bought this 40mm eyepiece as a cheap alternative for Scanning, Solar and Open Cluster viewing in my Mak-Cass Telescope. For the price this eyepiece does great, image is sharp, easier eye placement and a fraction of the price of a Televue 40mm Plossl. If your looking for a cheap alternative 40mm eyepiece this one is one to look at.
