I bought this to use with my camcorder and spotting scope. It seems to be very sturdy, at least at the height that I need it to be for the camcorder, which is with the legs extended about twice their original lengths. The locking of the legs is very positive and secure, with no slippage. The maneuverability of the mount is also very secure and easy to manipulate. I bought it slightly used, but it appeared as new, and was very easy to figure out even with no real instructions other than it's picture on the box. I think for my money I got one heck of a deal. If I ever need a new one, this brand will be at the top of my list.
I can only use the two most important words for a tripod; stable and smooth. As long as you don't throw a full sized broadcast camera with monitor and all accessories (do not try), it will take a full frame prosumer camera plus battery pack, and fairly large lens with no problems. The detachable camera shoe fits snugly, but comes out easily with the release lever, which is very helpful.

The stance is too narrow for a serious camera. I'd be afraid the wind would blow it over.
