I bought this unit to replace a very old one whose dimmer control had worn out. They work great but are a bit difficult to adjust to align with the telescope axis. I've used the Telrad system for quick scope pointing since I started doing visual astronomy over 30 years ago, and I really like it.

Clean, clear illumination circle on good sized viewing screen. Easy to use/see on long- 1000mm+ tubes. Easy to align with good precision. The Telrad is large but not heavy. It may change telescope balance. More substantial than small red dot view finders. Needs consideration for placement, suggest temporary placement until user is satisfied and familiar with use. The red illuminated circle will not obscure center focus, gives a nice large field view.

I love telrads as there are a number of flip chart books you can get for Messier object, bright sky objects, binocular objects, etc that with basic knowledge of the constellations, a sky chart, those flip charts, a telrad and obviously a telescope, one can spend all night looking at galaxies, planetary nebula, globular clusters, double stars, etc. I've got two Dobsonian telescopes and a astronomical binocular; so, these are a must for quick point, find and gawk!
