A Just-Right Beginner Microscope!
This is a beginner microscope and also a precision instrument. The bright colors and heavier plastic construction can take the somewhat heavy handling of a young child's enthusiasm and at the same time provide very acceptable results that lead a path to explore the microscopic world. Our five-and-a-half year old granddaughter immediately tool the supply of safe, already-mounted, plastic slides (see AMSCOPE-KIDS 48pcPlastic Prepared Microscope Slides of Animals Insects Plants) and microscope and, once given the basics, went to her room to start exploring. One interesting sidelight was that she was very motivated to read the labels on the slides in the marvelous aforementioned set. We did take the tweezers and glass slides away for safety reasons until she is of an age to more reasonably ... This is a beginner microscope and also a precision instrument. This is advertised as a toy, so for a toy it is great. Comparing with other AmScope microscopes it leaves much to be desired, but with the right specimen and a little luck you can see magnified images. It is significantly less expensive than other AmScope products...so I guess you get what you pay for. If you are really trying to get a student excited about science, I would pay more and get a better microscope that is easier to get a clean, bright image on. This is advertised as a toy, so for a toy it is great. Comparing with other AmScope microscopes it leaves much to be desired, but with the right specimen and a little luck you can see magnified images. It is significantly less expensive than other AmScope products...so I guess you get what you pay for. If you are really trying to get a student excited about science, I would pay more and get a better microscope that is easier to get a clean, bright image on.

Beginner is Operative Word ...
9 yr old future " 'nano physicist' " loved it. I do not think it will last due to construction ..not due to the 9 yr old ...Plastic rules this product; not metals. Therefore, the price was good; any higher and I personally would not recommend. Kit was nicely complete for the active, curious, ingenious 9 yr old child to spur their inquisitive mind.

I saw my own white blood cell - wonderful with 1200x
We bought the microscope for our grand-daughter, and we took it out immediately. We had samples of moss, slime, hair, and so on. That was really entertaining, but I realized I would like to take a look at my blood. There it was! A stunning white cell among the sea of red. We could see the nucleus, too. For the price, this is great for both kids and grownup beginners. We also plan to take a look at our compost bacteria, too. We bought the microscope for our grand-daughter, and we took it out immediately. We had samples of moss, slime, hair, and so on. That was really entertaining, but I realized I would like to take a look at my blood. There it was! A stunning white cell among the sea of red. We could see the nucleus, too.
