Here\'s a beautiful, compact (plate size is just 4\" x 5\") Scovill Waterbury tailboard camera manufactured in New York in the mid-1880\'s. The camera comes with a complete set of Waterhouse stops and its original leather lens cap.
Condition of the camera is excellent throughout. The mahogany body retains its original hand-rubbed finish, as does the bed.Original bellows are pristine and appear to be light tight. Original Gundlach 4x5 lens is likewise in excellent condition, and the lens cover fits snugly over the end of the barrel. All of the lacquered brass fittings are original and in excellent condition, and no fittings are missing. The camera opens easily, closes easily, and stays rigid when the bed is locked in place.
Camera retains its original lens board and its original ground glass focusing plate. All numbers match. Lens elements appear to be in excellent condition, ground glass is likewise in excellent condition, with no scratches or damage. Lens throws a crisp image against the ground glass back with sufficient lighting.
Waterhouse stops (nos. 1-5; all brass) are in good condition, with no rust or other damage. Original leather case is also in good condition.
Camera has not been tested with either glass plates or film and is being offered for historical and/or collectible purposes only.
With the tailboard retracted, the camera measures approximately 6\" x 7\" x 4\". Shipping weight approximately 8 lb.
