This is massive double pillar supported continental limb instrument, the biggest model ever made by Nachet, called “Grand Modele Nº 2”. It comes in a Mahogany wood cabinet correctly preserved and relined in purple moaré with padding. The microscope is signed “NACHET Opticien à Paris, Rue Serpente 16” which dates it between 1856 and 1862.
The optical tube slides into a carrier split in front to accept it. It has rack and pinion coarse and continental vertical screw fine focus. The mechanical stage combines left-right movement and forward-backward movement by knobbed screws on the right side of the microscope. The entire upper portion of the microscope can rotate around the stage. Please note that the EYEPIECE IS MISSING. The one shown in the pics belongs to another microscope.
