Fine antique mid 18th c surveying altazimuth theodolite att. Benjamin Cole c1750not graphometer holland circle compass A nice altazimuth theodolite by Benjamin Cole (1695-1766). Although it is unsigned, this instrument can be attributed with confidence to Benjamin Cole. Very similar examples can be found in Bennett’s The Divided Circle, in the collections of the Museum of the History of Science, Oxford (#38733), and the National Museums of Scotland (000-190-004-260-C). The retro-fitted bubble level on the compass rose, across the Northern cardinal point, most probably now occupies the original location of Cole’s signature on this instrument. In good working order.
