Item History: Up for sale here is a used twice, excellent working condition, solar telescope designed for viewing sunspots, solar flares, and eclipses.
This solar scope is pretty much like new (used twice). This telescope was purchased for the 2017 eclipse and used for that purpose, plus one practice session before to learn how to set it up and focus (and I viewed some sunspots during the practice session, which was cool). I will be going to a viewing party for the April 8, 2024, eclipse and do not need this scope anymore. It\'s a nifty little piece of kit. There is a shadow alignment (bullseye) tool on the scope that makes it pretty easy to get the sun in the frame. That said, if you purchase this you\'ll want to get out and practice before the eclipse. During the eclipse, you want set it up and focus in full sun (full shadow in the bullseye), and then slightly move the scope every 10-15 minutes to keep everything in frame. I found the process pretty easy in 2017 and had a wonderful eclipse viewing experience. All original items are included, plus a couple bonus eclipse viewing glasses and a smartphone mount that I never got around to trying (note: no idea how well it will attach to the scope as I have not tried it). - Function: 10 / 10, everything seems to still be working. Eye pieces and lenses are clear. Tripod still opens and legs lock correctly. Zippers on the case are all good.
- Cosmetics: 9.5/10 (LN). I don\'t see any wear on this kit. As mentioned, it was used twice and has been stored since 2017. Rated it at 9.5 because it is used.
